A Journey Inward With Journaling

By: Gillian B As a regular practice, journaling is one of the best ways to connect with your higher self. Sitting down and writing is very therapeutic and it allows you the space to process your day. It is a time for quiet reflection where you can tune into what's happening beneath the surface. Beyond just events of your day, writing about your emotional dialogue allows you to access deeper parts of yourself. Reflecting back, you can notice what triggered an emotional charge within you, and begin to notice patterns. This kind of daily research will help you zero in on the root cause of your suffering instead of relying on the band-aid approach to bring temporary relief. Journaling gives you perspective and the opportunity to work through your issues so that you can avoid big dramatic blowouts. Something about putting pen to paper allows you to feel your feelings giving them the chance to live instead of stuffing them away. It also enables you to string together your thoughts before sharing them with others. Journaling is a sacred time in the day where you can consult with your higher Self. You can ask questions about your personal problems and inner conflicts. You can ask for clarity and guidance in challenging times. You can ask for help with big life decisions and signs to know if you've heard correctly. Journaling is your chance to get honest with yourself about how you truly feel without being influenced by those around you. Once you are clear on this, it is easier to know what you want and to be more confident of yourself. For some people, their journal is their safe haven, one of the only places they can express themselves freely without editing or worrying that what they say will hurt the feelings of others. Recommendations for Journaling:
  • Take note of the repetitive thoughts, track them and notice patterns. These are clues as to where you are losing energy everyday.
  • Write down not just good but bad events and emotions as well.
  • Make a list of everything you are grateful for that day, no matter how big or small they are.
  • Ask questions, for guidance and signs to help you navigate life's challenges.
  • Write down judgments and projections you make on others and then flip them around on yourself to quickly see the root feeling.
  • Highlights of your day, things you are proud of and what you could have done differently.
So if you've never given journaling a try, commit to it for 7 days straight. Don't over think it and certainly don't stress yourself out about what to write. Get quiet, put your pen paper and let it flow out.
