Traditionally most of us have spent our time taking “bubble baths,” or code word for toxic soap products that foam up and leave us feeling good in the short term but damage our health in the long term.

But what if I told you that you could have your cake and eat it too, so to speak?

That's exactly what we're getting at with these 7 detox bath recipes, all of which are designed to not only help melt away stress, but also to prime your body for the weeks and months ahead through good the most potent, detoxifying compounds, minerals, essential oils and other raw materials that far surpass the traditional relaxation bath. Skip the pricey spa fees and try these recipes instead!

7 Detox Bath Recipes to Save and Try Tonight

1 – Relaxing Epsom salt bath with lavender oil

The benefits of lavender essential oil for relaxation are well-documented, but did you know that one of the safest, most cost effective and enjoyable ways to relax in your bathtub is by using Epsom salts in your detox bath recipe?

From the fanciest spas to the most satisfying home relaxation baths, many recipes call for this simple mineral packet that can be found at your local drug store.

This particular entry on our list of detox bath recipes (1) includes the following combination of essential oils and Epsom salts:

  • 2½ cups Epsom salt
  • ¼ cup bentonite clay or activated coconut charcoal
  • 8-10 drops lavender
  • 8 drops frankincense
  • 8-10 drops myrrh
  • 8 drops bergamot
  • 8-10 drops chamomile

You may also consider adding a carrier oil to the mix such as fractionated coconut oil, which will help to disperse the oils in the water more evenly.

To make your bath, mix the ingredients well in a glass bowl with a non-metal spoon, add and enjoy.

If you only one of the oils listed or better yet at least three of them, you should be good to go for this particular detox recipe.

Give it a try and you'll forget about the stresses of your day in 10-30 minutes or less. Commit to the process for maximum enjoyment!

– Detoxifying Charcoal Bath for Glowing Skin

A lot of people forget about or even avoid using clay or even activated charcoal when it comes to detox baths, but these are actually two of the most powerful substances on Earth for detoxifying your whole body and giving you the most glowing skin possible!

The power of clay, charcoal and similar substances is always on display in the most exotic tropical locales, but you can bring its life-changing benefits to your daily detox routine with this simple detox bath recipe (2).

First, you'll need:

  • 2 cups of Epsom salts
  • 1 cup bentonite clay
  • 1 tablespoon real salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon activated coconut charcoal (just break open a few capsules and add to the bath)

The reason this version works so well is because it combines both detoxification and relaxation. It's a real time saver if you're looking to enjoy these detox bath benefits in your life at the current moment, and this entry on the list of detox bath recipes also has the added benefit of making your skin glow over an extended period of time.

– Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Bath Recipe

This detox bath recipe (3) may not be for the faint of heart in its purest form, but it does pack a powerful detoxifying punch!

Apple cider vinegar has the ability to help break down all sorts of acidic matter within the body, which makes this detox bath recipe perfect for anyone whose diet isn't always the most alkaline!

To do this bath at home you will need:

  • 1 cup of ACV
  •  ½ cup Epsom salt
  •  5 drops of lavender essential oil

The ACV will also help to draw out toxins and clean your pores, although you should be advised that the scent is not always the easiest for everyone to tolerate!

If you feel as if the ACV smell is a little too overwhelming, feel free to add more lavender oil to the mix for this recipe, and if you've got some on hand, don't forget to add a little fractionated coconut oil to help balance out the mix a little bit.

Ginger-Hydrogen Peroxide Bath

A lot of people know that ginger makes an amazing detoxifying tea recipe, but did you know that it also makes an excellent detoxifying bath recipe as well?

In this case, the ginger works nicely with hydrogen peroxide, one of the most powerful detoxifying substances on the planet (and also one of the cheapest to boot).

In this case, the detox bath recipe calls for the following:

  • 1 bottle of hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger

This recipe is noteworthy as an incredibly strong recipe for using whenever signs of a cold begin to hit you, as the ginger will help you get a good “sweat” going in order to cleanse the body, and this combo in particular is excellent for drawing out toxins!

Detox bath recipes like these can help speed up the process for when you haven't been eating or drinking enough detoxifying superfoods or even just regular old healthy foods in general.

Hot baths also work to open up the sinuses which can help the healing process in a way that traditional food and medicine simply cannot touch. This is your go-to bath whenever you start feeling sick!

– Invigorating Citrus Bath

As far as essential oils go, it doesn't get much more invigorating than citrus essential oils! This makes this entry on our list of detox bath recipes a real treat!

These oils are oftentimes among the simplest on the surface, whether they be orange, grapefruit, or lemon, but the microscopic compounds within these oils that create their invigorating and detoxifying qualities are very hard to beat.

It should be noted before trying this recipe (4) or any Epsom salt bath that people with blood pressure issues should consult with their doctor before trying. That being said, this is a generally safe and effective recipe that draws upon the power of Epsom salt, lemon essential oil and orange essential oil.

The recipe for this detox bath is as follows:

  • 1/2 cup Bentonite clay or better yet, activated coconut charcoal
  • 1 cup Epsom salts
  • 4-5 drops lemon essential oil
  • 6-7 drops orange essential oil

Make sure you mix the ingredients into your bath until all the salts and clay have dissolved for this recipe.

The benefits of lemon essential oil include (5):

  • The ability to nourish your skin
  • Improved digestion and possible relief for nausea
  • Possible weight loss benefits
  • Helps to purify the body

Meanwhile, orange essential oil helps to:

  • Prevent infections
  • Relieve depression and helps to uplift the mood
  • Remove gas from the body and relaxes the abdominal muscles
  • Improve cognitive function

...and much more.

Needless to say this is one detox bath recipe that provides and uplifting combo of ingredients to help you have the best day ever!

Baking Soda Detox Bath

Baking soda is not only one of the most inexpensive detoxifying substances out there, but it's also one of the most effective. The simple act of taking a little bit of baking soda internally each day can help balance pH levels in the body, and make everything in the system function more smoothly while also drawing out plenty of toxins, relieving muscle aches and so much more!

If you'd like to try baking soda in detox bath recipes, you can't do much better than this one (6):

  • 4 cups aluminum-free baking soda
  • 4-5 drops essential oil of your choice (for scent and additional benefits, we recommend lemon or orange)

After taking this bath (preferably for 30-45 minutes), your body should be far more alkalized than before. This detox recipe also has the benefit of being very simple to get started if you've had a long day, simply keep a small container of baking soda near your bathtub and you'll be ready to go in no time!

After doing this bath, try not to rinse or shower until the next day, your body will thank you.

– Black Detox Bath

And here it is, the mother of all detox bath recipes: the black detox bath (7).

For starters, get a mason jar that's 32 ounces, a little bigger than your standard mason jar. Keeping your detox bath recipe in glass will help to avoid any of the toxins associated with plastics, which you want to avoid if at all possible.

Gather up a mix of the following ingredients:

  • Epsom Salt
  • Sea Salt
  • Activated Charcoal
  • Ginger Essential Oil
  • Rose Essential Oil
  • Lemon Essential Oil
  • Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Aluminum-free baking soda

Next, fill the jar about 1/3 full with Epsom salt. Afterward, add sea salt until the jar is about half full.

Once you've reached this step, it's time to add the baking soda; do so until the jar is about ¾ full.

For the last step, fill the jar all the way with activated charcoal or activated coconut charcoal for an extra detoxifying and skin soothing boost, that is free of harsh materials like coal or petroleum pitch.

Finally, it's time for the ultimate detox bath!

Dissolve about 1/4-1/2 cups of the mixture into a hot bath and begin soaking in the water for about 20 minutes.

The water will be quite dark, a testament to the powerful strength of the detoxifying compounds in this mixture. Give it a try, the payoff will be worth it in the end!

Feel free to add or remove your own detoxifying essential oils to make this detox bath recipe just the way you want it. At the end of the day, you're the one who's in control and capable of customizing these mixes to suit your individual needs.
